Well really it’s an opportunity for me to get back in to writing. Sure, I write at work, in my day job, statements, interviews, reports; but I mean real writing – from the heart.

At work it’s different and whilst we don’t all ‘proceed in a northerly direction’, the practised ‘On day, date, time, I was travelling north along High Street, Anytown when …’ does kind of restrict your writing. And there are those who struggle to break away from referring to men and woman as ‘males and females’ and others who will start a sentence with the word ‘obviously’, when it’s not obvious at all.
Annoying Habits
Of all my colleagues’ annoying habits, including misplaced apostrophe’s (see what I did there? If you didn’t, don’t worry about it), the thing that gets me most is the paragraph that starts ‘At about 0900 hours’; it is either ‘at’ or it is ‘about’. It cannot be both.
I said that was the thing that gets me most but sat here, thinking, there are lots of other things too. I may share them one day.
Of course it’s not just work colleagues who say things that grate. On the news the other day the newscaster announced that a building was ‘almost completely destroyed’. Stop! Almost destroyed or completely destroyed but not both.
Obviously(!), I’m not stupid enough to suggest that I always get it right; that would be setting myself up for a fall but it does mean that I try to get it right.
My Blog, I intend, will focus on things that get me thinking. Not necessarily in a negative way, at least I hope not but I guess we’ll have to see about that. For now I’ll draw this first post to a close. Will others enjoy it or even read it? I don’t know but I’ve enjoyed writing it and that must count for something.
Until the next time, so long.
